Solvalla : Fragus and Hansson back in the title fight
After a positive week-end at Karlskoga which saw Robin Hansson and Fragus BR Motorsport back in the title hunt, the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia crew travelled to Stockholm for the 6th and penultimate event of the 2016 season.
In the free practice session, the three championship contenders were in the four first place, with Morin (2nd in standings) scoring the fastest lap in front of Fragus driver Oscar Palm, while Larsson (leading the series) was closely followed by Robin Hansson.
In Qualifying, the first session was dominated by Morin, followed by Palm and Hansson. The Q2, selecting the eight fastest drivers of the first qualifying session, saw the same result, while Larsson only scored the 7th fastest laptime. The end of the session was marked by an incident of Matts Karlsson, Morin’s team mate, who went off at the first corner, putting the session in yellow flag conditions and avoiding the rest of the field to threaten Morin’s pole position.
The race would decisive on either Robin and Fragus stay in the title hunt for the last event at Knutstorp or not. Starting from the second row, Hansson took a perfect launch, passing Palm and sticking to Morin’s exhaust at corner 1. Quickly, Morin, Hansson and Palm pulled away from the rest of the field, while championship leader Larsson was fighting with Sundahl for the 7th position. The positions remained unchanged after the safety car procedure due to Fredericsson’s incident, Morin winning the race, closely followed by Robin Hansson and Oscar Palm, marking the fourth double podium of the Fragus team this season.
These results were a good operation in the drivers and teams’ standings, with Hansson lying now only 18 points behind leader Larsson, with 44 points to distribute, and Fragus shortening the gap with Team Benny before the last 2016 event at Knutstorp.
